Politicians from ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) continue to target people who defend "no" votes for the referendum that will be held on April 16.

Mayor of Kaş district of Antalya province, Halil Kocaer from AKP, talked in a meeting for referendum campaign. Kocaer claimed that some foreign forces want to prevent the development, unity, and growth of Turkey. Kocaer accused citizens who will vote "no" as those "who do not want development and growth of Turkey and who do not want Turkey be able to dominate and protect the Islamic world." Kocaer compared people who vote "no" to the crusaders against the unity of Turkey.

MAYOR AT THE HEART OF CORRUPTION SCANDAL

In recent months, Halil Kocaer became the key name of a corruption scandal. It is claimed that a hotel built illegally in the protected area of Kaş is run by son and brother-in-law of the mayor. Some non-governmental organizations carried the issue to court.
