In Bolu province of Turkey, a Turkish man named Nihat Yıldıran was taken into custody for wresting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's poster by yelling "I am hungry" on February 3. Yıldıran has been unemployed for some time, local media reported.
While wresting Erdoğan's poster hanging on the facade of the municipality building, he cried out to the people watching him that he does not damage the poster of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, since he holds Atatürk in high esteem.
Turkey has witnessed other protests by unemployed or impoverished citizens in the last couple of weeks. On January 29, a Turkish citizen unemployed for months set himself on fire in Balıkesir province of Turkey. Similarly, a worker whose wage has not been paid for months staged a naked sit-in protest in front of the Provincial Directorate of Labour and Employment Agency in İzmir on January 16.
