Man who shot children 'out of boredom' released

Ömer Murat A., a 27-year-old man shot two children, Sümeyye B. (4) and İkra K.(6), playing in the street in Palandöken of the eastern province of Erzurum. The perpetrator said that he was ‘bored’ while the children were being treated at the hospital.

Ömer Murat A., while waiting for the fast-breaking dinner, on June 19, 2017, around 19.30, opened the window of the flat at the fourth floor and shot at a coke bottle at the street. He wounded the two children playing in the street.

The 6-year-old İkra K. was taken under an operation while the 4-year-old Sümeyye B.was taken into the short stay unit.

Taken into custody, the perpetrator Ömer Murat A. said "I was bored around the fast-breaking dinnertime. I had a mind to shoot. There was a coke bottle on the wall at the street. I shot once but I missed the target and at the second I hit the target."

The perpetrator was released on judicial control decision.
