An improvised explosive device, planted on the road by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) went off in the southeastern Hakkari province of the country, injuring 17 servicemen, the Turkish General Staff said Monday in a statement.
The vehicle was passing through the Yüksekova district of Hakkari province, which borders Iran and Iraq when the blast occurred, the army said, adding the wounded were immediately taken to the hospital.
Kurds are an ethnic minority in Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria and are striving to establish an autonomous Kurdish administration.
