The topic of the meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will be the situation around the admission of a group of German lawmakers to the Turkish air base İncirlik, in the case of refusal, German servicemen will leave the base, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters Thursday after arriving at the NATO summit in Brussels.
Merkel's speech was broadcast at the NATO website.
"I will clearly indicate in the conversation with the Turkish president that, since we have a parliamentary army, members of the German Bundestag should be able to visit our soldiers. Otherwise, we will have to leave İncirlik," Merkel said.
If not, she added, "we need to leave İncirlik."
