The claim was made in a statement issued by the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), seen as an splinter group of the better-known Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

The militant group said the twin attacks were carried out by two TAK militants, without providing any details about the perpetrators.

In a statement posted on its website, the TAK, said "two of its members had sacrificed their lives in the Saturday night attack that targeted security forces outside a stadium shortly after the conclusion of a soccer match."

"Two of our comrades were heroically martyred in the attack," the statement read. It said the attack was reprisal for state violence in the southeast and the ongoing imprisonment of Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the PKK. TAK is considered as a PKK offshoot. "A revenge squad from TAK carried out simultaneous attacks outside Istanbul Vodafone Arena stadium and Maçka park at around 22.30 local time (1930 GMT)," according to the TAK statement.
