Israeli servicemen on Monday killed at least 52 Palestinians on the border with Gaza Strip during the ongoing protests known as the Great March of Return and riots against the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

Over 1,700 Palestinians were injured by rubber bullets and suffered from the use of tear gas during the Monday protests, the Haaretz newspaper reported.

Since March 30, Palestinians have been holding the Great March of Return, near the Gaza Strip border. During these protests, dozens of Palestinians have been killed, and over 1,000 others have been injured as the Israeli forces continue to suppress the demonstrations.

The United States has officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem, US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman said during a dedication ceremony for the embassy on Monday.

"Today we open the United States embassy in Jerusalem, Israel," U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman said at the beginning of the inaugural ceremony, attended by a U.S. delegation from Washington and Israeli leaders.

In December, US President Donald Trump announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and instructed the US State Department to launch the process of moving the US Embassy, located in Tel Aviv, to Jerusalem.

Trump, in a recorded message at the ceremony opening the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, said he remained "committed to peace between Israel and the Palestinians."

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah reiterated that Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the relocation of the embassy was “blatant violations of international law.”
