SoL columnist Aydemir Güler writes on the perspective that today's socialists need to have about the past experiences of socialism. The so-called "20th-century socialism" used to degrade the real socialist experiences does not help to look at a socialist future, according to Güler.

"There are many things to criticize in the Soviet Union. But the issue is always about whether we need to break off from the experience built upon the 1917 revolution or we need to build socialism of the future upon this experience. Our answer is clear: There is no single social problem of humanity whose search for the solution does not necessitate looking at real socialist experiences", he says.

Güler also gives the national question as an example and tells what lessons from the Soviet experience on this issue can be taken by today's socialists.
