Russia's Inter RAO energy holding said Thursday it has expelled espionage suspect Karina Tsurkan from its Management Board. "To terminate the powers of member of the [Management] board and head of Inter RAO's trading block Tsurkan Karina Valeryevna as of June 28, 2018," the text of a directive by the company's Board of Directors says.

The Lefortovo Court in Moscow announced on June 19 the arrest of Tsurkan, who is suspected of spying for Romania.

According to media reports, Tsurkan was on the board of the company that would build Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, the Akkuyu NPP, and could have passed Akkuyu project confidential information to foreign intelligence services.
