Head of Amnesty in Turkey arrested over alleged Gülen links

A Turkish court has formally arrested Amnesty International's chairman in the country pending trial on charges of membership in a terror organisation

The head of Amnesty International in Turkey was charged late Friday over suspected links to the network of U.S. based Islamic preacher, one of the masterminds of last year's coup attempt, Fethullah Gülen religious sect. 

Taner Kılıç was arrested in the western province of İzmir along with 22 other attorneys who are accused of using ByLock, an encrypted mobile messaging application. Kilic was detained on Tuesday and arrested late Friday. ByLock is used by the network of Fethullah Gülen.

Amnesty said Kılıç had denied using the app in his testimony.
