The co-president of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) expressed his support to the “justice assembly” that will be held by the Republican People’s Party (CHP) as a continuation of the "justice march" that was completed last month, and called for participation.

Selahattin Demirtaş, the imprisoned co-president of HDP, expressed his support to the "justice assembly" that will be held by the CHP in Çanakkale province in the northwest of Turkey.

According to Evrensel columnist Kamil Tekin who visited Demirtaş in prison, the co-president of HDP stated that "All pro-democracy forces must participate in the Assembly that will be organized by CHP in Çanakkale and the AKP’s [the ruling Justice and Development Party’s] plan to divide the forces of democracy must be defeated."

Meanwhile, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a prominent HDP MP, in an interview with Dihaber stated that "The logic of the new Presidential System requires a new coalition that might receive more than 50% of votes, in which one plus one makes three. A gathering in which HDP, CHP and many other partners will be a part of is a must" in an interview of Dihaber.

Following a question on the elections to be held in 2019, the MP Önder also expressed that the subject of a common candidate is a problem to be solved in long run. He stated that the first step is for all opposition forces to pull their weights.

The "justice assembly" will be the second phase of the "justice march", which was led by CHP President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu between June 15 and July 9, 2017, and which ended with a final rally in İstanbul.
