While aggressive statements addressing the Netherlands and Germany keep coming from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Turkey, another warning was given by the Undersecretary of Prime Ministry of Germany, Peter Altmaier.

Altmaier stated in an interview that “the fact that Germany has not made away with their options stemming from the international law does not mean a blank check.” Altmaier also noted that they were keeping a travel ban as a conclusive option, which they reserve as a right.

A ban is actually on its way, even though on a provincial basis. Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, the Minister-President of the state of Saarland, where more than 10.000 Turks live, explained that they would utilize every legal opportunity to ban foreign politicians from holding rallies in the state.

Erdoğan, on the other hand, recently implied that he could hold a meeting in Germany. He stated that Sigmar Gabriel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, had said: “if the President of Turkish Republic wishes to come here, there is a hall for 16.000 people near Hannover.” Erdoğan claimed that Germany had left the door open, while the Netherlands was more strict on the issue.
