In the opening speech of the event, the Head of José Martí Cuba-Turkey Friendship Association Gözde Somel stated that the Cuban people, who continue their dignified and decisive stance against the US President Trump’s policies targeting Cuba, have given the best answer to the question "what will happen after Fidel?"

The event’s guest of honour Cuban Ambassador Alberto Gonzalez Casals said: "Fidel, the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, physically left us in November 2016. Yet, we will not only commemorate him, but also will continue to enthusiastically celebrate his birthday which brought him to the Cuban people. Because his legacy still lives and will continue to live."

There were also the officials from Çankaya Municipality of Ankara, Panama Ambassador to Turkey Jorge Hernan Miranda Corona and his wife among the Cuban friends who took part in Fidel’s birthday celebration in Ankara.

After the event, Çankaya Municipality of Ankara carried out the opening of a park named by Cuba’s historic leader Fidel Castro on his birthday, August 13 with the participation of Alberto Gonzalez Casals and José Martí Cuba-Turkey Friendship Association.
