Turkish officials say President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and stressed that a strong Turkish economy is also in Germany's interest.

Erdoğan and Merkel pledged determination to strengthen bilateral ties and discussed their planned meeting in Berlin at the end of September, sources also said.

They said that Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak would meet with his German counterpart, but did not provide a date.

Germany wants to see Turkey’s economy developing along a predictable scenario, Merkel said on Monday after the Turkish lira plummeted last week. "Germany would like to see an economically prosperous Turkey. This is in our interest," she added.
