Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on January 7, "Boğaziçi University could not be successful in the international arena since it did not rely on the values of the homeland and nation."

Delivering a speech at a meeting of a Boğaziçi University association ('Boğaziçi University Reunion Association'), President Erdoğan harshly criticized Turkey's top university. Erdoğan blamed the university for "sticking to a certain doctrine and being biased against others", adding that this cannot be called "freedom".

Founded in 1863, Boğaziçi University is among the highest ranks around the world.

PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN AS A PSEUDO-NATIONAL HERO

Meanwhile, the Communist Youth (TKG), the youth branch of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), has released a public statement on Monday against President Erdoğan.

Saying that Erdoğan himself believes in the portrayal of "Second War of Independence" that is drawn by his pro-government media in an attempt to show Erdoğan as a "national hero", the TKG has stated that the last 16 years of the Justice and Development Party government proves quite the contrary.

"Nearly 90 percent of all the privatizations since 1980 has been conducted during the rule of AKP. The hegemony of foreign capital has been reinforced under the AKP," the statement reads, adding that Turkey’s such key sectors as agriculture and livestock have been subjected to the European and North American industrial monopolies.

COMMUNIST YOUTH: WEALTH FOR GOVERNMENT, POVERTY FOR PEOPLE

Underlining that today Turkey faces a severe economic and political crisis, the TKG has argued that Erdoğan and the plundering gang governing the country are responsible for the existing problems.

The statement points out that the governing figures hold astronomical wealth via offshore accounts like in the tax haven Isle of Man, while indebtedness and poverty are escalating at the expense of the working people in the country.

Putting forth that President Erdoğan is not pleased with Boğaziçi University since it does not fit in with his ideology, the TKG statement concludes that Erdoğan poses a show of strength in order to overcome his fears.
