Early election alternative possibly to rule out many parties

As MHP and the ruling AKP party agreed on an alliance for presidential elections, the early election suggestion of Devlet Bahçeli raised doubts on an election conspiracy

The leader of the fascist MHP party Devlet Bahçeli commented that Turkey could not wait 2019 for the presidential and parliamentary elections during his speech at the parliamentary group meeting on April 17. Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ said the AKP government would "consider" MHP's call in the following days.

The early election suggestion raised doubts on an election conspiracy since the Supreme Election Board (YSK) of Turkey, which acts according to the directives of the AKP government, announced earlier in 2018 that only 9 political parties were eligible to take part in the elections. Some of the parties like The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) were excluded from the list by YSK unlawfully.

Although YSK can renew the list of parties till the election time, an early election decision may hinder YSK to keep the list as it is.

YSK rules state that a party can take part in the elections if it fulfils the following rules: Having party offices in 41 provinces and having completed its party congress at least 6 months before the election date.

Özgür Özel, the group deputy chairman of the parliamentary main opposition CHP party, sais an early election would rule out İyi Parti since it does not meet the requirements of YSK and that this means "Devlet Bahçeli says they want elections without İyi Parti." MHP, under the leadership of Bahçeli, has dissolved within AKP and that some right-wing people staying out of AKP have left without a political address have brought İyi Party forward as a central-right party project.

İsmail Koncuk, the vice chairman of İyi Parti, responded to these claims by saying "İyi Parti will take part in the elections under all circumstances. Even if YSK hinders us, we have plans B and C."
