A double car bomb explosion in the northern Syrian city of Afrin on Wednesday claimed lives of ten people and left 15 others wounded, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

A car bomb exploded in a central street of the city, a source, who spoke anonymously, told the agency. Shortly afterwards, another bomb-laden vehicle exploded in another central street of the city, the source added.

Another source told the Sputnik news agency earlier in the day that the explosion near one of the facilities of the Levant Front group in Afrin left six people killed and 10 others injured. The source added that the blast followed clashes between two local armed groups.

Kurdish militant PKK-affiliated group, Afrin Falcons, claimed responsibility for the attacks according to the unconfirmed reports.

Afrin was captured by the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) in March as part of Ankara’s offensive against Syrian Kurdish armed groups that were operating in the area. Damascus expressed its opposition to Ankara’s operating on its territory, saying that Turkey violated Syria’s sovereignty by this move.
