A local court on Wednesday arrested a defence lawyer representing a suspect in Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency (MİT) trucks case, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

The court accused Deniz Akbulut of ties to Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which orchestrated the failed coup last July. He was also accused of using the ByLock app, a smart phone software used by FETÖ members for their inter-organizational communication.

Trucks owned by Turkey's state intelligence service were found to contain weapons and ammunition that were headed for Syria when they were stopped and searched in southern Turkey in early 2014.

Turkish authorities on June 14 arrested a lawmaker from CHP after a court handed him a 25-year jail sentence for giving material about the illegal weapon shipment to jihadist in Syria.
