More than a hundred educators, academics, union members, writers and artists on Thursday released a declaration following the call of the Enlightenment Movement against the reactionary curriculum of the AKP government issued in August.

The declaration called for a struggle against the new curriculum that strips the students' right to scientific and secular education, saying "we are calling on everybody who lay a claim for their future to fight against the reactionary impositions of the AKP government's curriculum."

ISLAMIC EDUCATION IN EVERY SCHOOL

Noting that the AKP government is intended to rule the country with religious codes and that the field of education is under severe attack, the declaration said "the new curriculum of the AKP government is the manifestation of this attack. Our children are being stripped of their right to secular and scientific education using this school curriculum."

The declaration underlined that the main axis of the new curriculum is "one religion, one sect" based on Sunni Islamic line, and said, "As the number of imam-hatip schools is increasing every day, religious education will get prominent in other public schools as well using the new curriculum."

"Our children need to be raised as a generation appreciating the humanitarian values, not submitting to injustice, and interested in science, arts, music and literature,"
