CSUN workers protest unpaid wages in Turkey

CSUN is recorded as the biggest Chinese investment in Turkey and benefited from governmental incentives and privileges

Workers of Chinese CSUN Solar Turkey based in İstanbul province protested their employers on July 17 since their wages are not paid for months.

Around 400 workers met in front of the provincial directorate of labour and employment agency to demanded that their wages are paid. The workers went on a strike at the factory last month.

Chinese CSUN Solar company has been operating in Turkey since 2013, producing solar modules. CSUN is recorded as the biggest Chinese investment in Turkey and benefited from governmental incentives and privileges. The company is listed as the first class solar module producer in the world in 2014.

Despite all governmental privileges including tax exemption, CSUN Turkey started to lose money as of 2017. In June 2018, CSUN announced that it opened a new company branch in California, US and that some of the production made in Turkey has been meeting the demands in the US market.

The workers' union released a statement regarding the violation of the rights of the CSUN workers in Turkey. The statement noted that the Chinese authorities of the company did not respond to their demands of layoff with compensation payment, and have not kept any of their promises so far.

CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ON STRIKE FOR THEIR WAGES

Construction workers of Kiler real estate investment company went on a strike on July 16 for their unpaid wages. The company is owned by Vahit Kiler, an MP of the ruling AKP party.

Although the company notified that the wages are to be paid on July 16, the workers still have not got any money. During the strike, one of the workers climbed on top a kilometres long tower crane.
