İstanbul's local criminal court decided on Jan. 16 to take the testimony of parliamentary main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu for "insulting" Bilal Erdoğan, the son of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, through media.

As Kılıçdaroğlu's attorney demanded the dismissal of the case in accordance to the Constitution’s related article regarding parliamentary immunity, Erdoğan's attorney said that their complaint continues on the grounds that the defendant, Kılıçdaroğlu, talked at an airport, not at the parliament.

The court postponed the trial, deciding to resort to a local criminal court in Ankara in order to take Kılıçdaroğlu’s testimony.

CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu criticized President Erdoğan’s son Bilal Erdoğan at a meeting in August 2014 in İstanbul’s Atatürk Airport. Kılıçdaroğlu accused Erdoğan’s son of acting like an education ministry upon a meeting of Bilal Erdoğan with bureaucrats from the ministry. Kılıçdaroğlu called Bilal Erdoğan’s TÜRGEV foundation as a centre of bribe.
