The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) issued a statement on Sept. 21 regarding Turkish Şekerbank’s anti-labour implementations under the name of "adoption to work hours".

UNLAWFUL, ANTI-LABOUR IMPOSITIONS ON BANK WORKERS

Originally founded in 1953 to meet financial needs for sugar beet producers, Şekerbank has been offering its services as a private bank since 1993. As one of the banks that colossally increased its profit rates during the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Şekerbank’s recent anti-labour announce to its employees has confronted uproar among the bank workers in Turkey.

Şekerbank imposes that if any bank worker who is late for work three times a month, his/her third late entrance to the office will be regarded as "leave day" without the due payment to the worker.

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) launched a protest on Sept. 21 with distributing leaflets in front of Şekerbank’s headquarters in İstanbul. TKP’s leaflet asks, "Does Şekerbank seek for slaves for itself?", indicating to the unlawful imposition of the bank.

ŞEKERBANK DIRECTORATE HUNTS FOR TKP MEMBERS AT BANK HQ

Following TKP’s leaflet distribution and soL News’ report revealing Şekerbank’s anti-labour implementations, the Şekerbank directorate felt disturbed and increased its pressure on the bank workers. Moreover, a general directory of the bank ordered to investigate the bank employees’ links to TKP.

Upon TKP’s leaflets and news reports regarding the unlawful practices of the bank, Şekerbank directorate did not allow around 50 bank labourers to enter into the bank building, labelling them as the "suspects" revealing the bank’s scandalous implementations.

Then a statement came from the Central Committee of TKP, warning Şekerbank: "Instead of hunting for TKP members and friends at the bank, withdraw your wrong step and give up any further pressure on the bank workers."

Stating that TKP is aware of such predatory practices are not only limited with Şekerbank, and of the hell of exploitation prevailing at capitalism’s glittering streets, the TKP statement continued, "We hereby call out to the capitalists: you are in the TKP’s crosshairs, even more than you guess."

TKP: "FEAR HAUNTS THE SKYSCRAPERS"

Titled as "Fear haunts the skyscrapers", the TKP statement said: "You may feel safe and strong at your skyscrapers, but do not forget that those skyscrapers are full of labourers and that you are afraid as the recent incident shows."

The Communist Party of Turkey concluded the statement with a call on all the labourers to immediately contact with their party, TKP.
