The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) has released a statement for April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day. “This reactionary system is dangerous for children,” the statement says, referring to the exploitative impositions of the capitalist system on children.

“Having been launched 98 years ago on April 23, 1920, in Ankara, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey led our country’s national war of independence. The parliament in Ankara under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk laid the foundations of a new power against the collaborationist government of İstanbul,” the statement reads, adding that the process resulted in the end of the Ottoman dynasty and the foundation of the Republic.

PROGRESSIVE ROLE OF PARLIAMENT DURING WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

Regarding the historically progressive role of the parliament during the war of independence, the TKP statement says that today the parliament has become a plaything of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the service of capitalists.

As Turkey is going to the polls for the parliamentary election on June 24, the communist party states that the current parliament is meaningless as it has become a simple body for legitimating the political moves of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his AKP party.

Arguing that only with a revolutionary establishment can the parliament become meaningful again, the TKP says that Turkey should orient to the working class against the capitalist and reactionary darkness.

The TKP reminds that April 23 marks the foundation date of the Turkish parliament, and that Atatürk and the Republican cadres presented it to all the world’s children. “Today, however, the children of the collapsed Republic of 1923 are compelled to [Islamic] imam-hatip schools and taken captive of completely anti-scientific curriculum,” the statement notes.

RULING PARTY ADVOCATES REACTIONARY SECTS WHERE CHILDREN FACE MOLESTATION

The TKP says that Erdoğan’s AKP party advocates the reactionary sects and foundations where children mostly face systematic abuse and molestation. “Moreover, today around 2 million children are working under severe working conditions in Turkey,” the statement continues, adding that this situation is unacceptable.

Stating that the parasitic rich classes are darkening the future of children under the reign of capital in Turkey, the TKP indicates to the rule of the working people as the sole option in order to eliminate the threats and dangers towards the children.

Celebrating April 23 of the working people and the children as the architects of an enlightened future, the Communist Party of Turkey concludes the statement.
