The Communist Party of Turkey ((TKP) issued a statement on the heavy rainfall that caused floods and a havoc on July 18 in İstanbul, the largest city of the country.

TKP pointed out to the fact that the residents of İstanbul were exposed to a paralysed urban life upon a heavy rainstorm early in the morning. People had to swim to safety in the flooded streets of İstanbul on July 18 after heavy rain and storms brought chaos to Turkey's largest city. Several vehicles were stranded in the floodwaters. The sewage recharge on the streets posed a threat to public health.

Indicating to the role of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), TKP said: “A rainfall could capture the country’s largest city in the AKP’s Turkey. The AKP-led system based on plundering is the sole responsible for leading a natural event to paralyse a city like İstanbul.”

‘RAINFALL IS NATURAL, BUT AKP IS A DISASTER’

Reacting to the government’s declaration that portrayed the chaos as a “natural disaster”, TKP puts forth that the rainfall is natural, yet itself of the AKP is a disaster:

"Eliminating the green spaces and filling everywhere with concrete in İstanbul, the AKP rule and municipality are the primary responsible for this picture. Those who rule the city regardless of the warnings, statements and reports of scientists and professional chambers, the capitalists who only seek for rents in forests and aims to build hydroelectric power plants on waters, the political rule which sees development as building highways and filling the city with concrete have dragged İstanbul and other cities to this situation."

‘HUMANITY’S EMANCIPATION IS UNDER SOCIALISM’

TKP states that nature as a source of social richness is under the threat of a great danger of destruction, adding that it would be impossible to find solutions for the urban policies without overthrowing the rule of capital based on plundering in Turkey and the world.

Calling the people for struggling against the rule of AKP, the Communist Party of Turkey concluded that humanity should be emancipated from capitalism in Turkey and the world, which could be achieved under socialism.
