Communist Party of Turkey greets anniversary of great workers' resistance

Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) organised a demonstration in Ankara in commemoration of the Great Workers’ Resistance of June 15-16, 1970. The demonstration started from the party building and the communists marched to “The Miner” statue in Olgunlar street. Two workers made a public statement on behalf of the Communist Party of Turkey.

“I AM A COMMUNIST BECAUSE I CANNOT UNITE WITH THIS DIRTY SYSTEM”

In her speech, Gül Barışkan stated that she, as a woman worker, is in the right place where she belongs to. She also said that “I am a communist because I don’t want my labour to be appropriated; I am a communist because I cannot unite with this dirty system; I am a communist because I know that this system has to change”.

In June 15-16, 1970, the biggest worker protest in Turkey took place against the change of labour union law. Around 150 thousand workers actively participated in the protests by marching and gathering on the streets of İstanbul. The attack of police and military forces resulted in 3 deaths and over 200 injured.

AKG WORKERS ON STRIKE WITH THE LEGACY OF THE GREAT RESISTANCE

The workers of the German AKG thermodynamic factory has been on strike since May 26. The factory management was dismissed eight workers who were unionised and then 16 others who supported their co-workers’ strike after the dismissal. All these workers continue their strike and it has been their 21st day of the strike in June 15. The workers stated that they will continue their struggle with the legacy of the Great Workers’ Resistance. In the marching demonstration, one of the banners reads “with the legacy of June 15-16, we will protect our unionisation rights”.
