An explosion at a textile factory in the Gürsu district of the northwestern Bursa province, Turkey killed five people and wounded 16 others on Wednesday.

A boiler caused the explosion, and officials were investigating what happened, pro-government Anadolu news agency said.

The building collapsed after the explosion and a number of health and rescue teams were dispatched to the area. The explosion rocked the Gürsu Industrial Site, causing damage in at least two factories while thrashing nearby vehicles.

"Initial reports from the area show that five workers have lost their lives and 16 people, including citizens who were in the factory's vicinity during the blast, were wounded," Labour Minister Julide Sarıeroğlu said.

Firefighters, ambulances and rescue crews from the regional unit of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) were dispatched to the explosion site. Rescue crews are still trying to locate whether anyone remains trapped under rubble.
