Police barriers have already set on Taksim Square, Turkey's İstanbul 10 days before the International Workers’ Day, which the working class has been preparing to celebrate on May 1.

İstanbul’s Taksim Square has been one of the most important places historically for working class gatherings and May 1 celebrations. Most famously, the square is known as the place where a gunfire targeting labour activists gathering for May 1 in 1977 was opened and killed dozens. Despite pressures from leftist organisations, the square had been banned to May 1 celebrations for successive years including last year during the AKP governments.

The ongoing referendum conflict and increasing protests against referendum frauds have clearly made the government more afraid of what could happen in International Workers’ Day celebration this year and caused them to start taking precautions 10 days before.
