The Turkish government, along with national intelligence services, is trying to influence Turkish nationals living in Germany, head of the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), the domestic intelligence service, Hans-Georg Maassen said on Friday.

"We have information on the influence of the Turkish government imposed on the Turkish community here in Germany," Maassen said, as quoted by the Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper.

Maassen added that the BfV was aware of attempts "to intimidate the people of the Turkish origin" that do not support Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stressing that these attempts concerned the intelligence service greatly.
