Four Turkish citizens who illegally crossed to Greek island Chios by an inflatable boat requested asylum.

Local media reported yesterday that 4 Turkish citizens who fled Turkey on an inflatable boat and landed on the shoreline of Virgin Oinousses town turned themselves into Greek police with their passports early Sunday morning.

The group introduced themselves as Kurdish politicians and requested an application for asylum on the grounds that they had no life safety, the report said. The group was taken into custody.

They will be sent to Athens after giving their statements and will be brought into court on the following Thursday.
