Three people died and seven were missing on Tuesday after a refugee boat capsized in a that runs along the border between Turkey and Greece on Tuesday.

The boat was travelling along the Maritsa River, in Turkey's northwestern province of Edirne, when it capsized early on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Organisation (AFAD) said.

The incident was revealed after one of the migrants called on the soldiers patrolling the military zone, asking for help for his child to be rescued.

Searchers recovered three bodies, AFAD said, adding that two of them were children - allegedly all Turkish nationals.

AFAD was still looking for the four others on the boat but said the cold temperatures and the strong currents in the water were impeding operations.
